Trick my Chestbox….Secrets of the Targ Revealed.

For some time I have thought about making my resources available to those brave souls who would want to take a shot at tricking out their chest box both for looks and function.   This is a listing of the items I use in my modifications.

The Fan Housing

I cut the 2” PVC the same width as the inside of the chest box shell. I then cut out a four inch section from the center of the tube that is two inches wide to fit and affix the fans with the air flow pointing outwards. I’ve tried having the fans push out and suck in air but since a helmet isn’t actually sealed, the flow into the helmet is more productive in cooling the face. Depending on the fans you find you can cut away the two inside corners or all four and fit the fan into the inside edge of the opening and cement them in. I use an ACC (crazy glue) with an accelerator. ACC glues are good as long as there is not a lot of torque pressure being applied to them. ACC will shear from its connection if enough “twisting” action is applied. Once this is completed be sure all of your wires are out of the way of the fan as they will stop if obstructed.
  1. On this model of fan, there is a third “orange” lead, cut it away as well as the connector.
Once this is completed, glue your tube supports in place.

  2. 7 7/8th inch long, 2” diameter PVC tube, available at most hardware and home improvement centers.

  3. Two, five volt fans, available from All Electronics.com Click me!

  4. 2 switches. Click me!
    Two, two inch long screws.

Each fan should be connected to the switch using the negative (black) lead. The battery connector’s negative lead should be soldered to the opposite post. The Positive lead from each of the two batteries should be connected to the positive lead of each fan, one 9 volt battery to each 5 volt fans.

  1. 2, 1.25” hose connectors.
2, 22” Polypropylene Hose from US Plastic Click me too!

Rocker LED Assemblies

1.      Two, T-95 Multi-phasing LEDs. These are 5mm. Click me!
2.      Two, Clear Cliplite LED Holders Click me!

All of the LEDs must have a resistor added to the positive lead (longer lead) between the power and the LED. Otherwise the LED will fry in a flash. I have been using 9 volt batteries to run this arrangement.  All four LEDs will run off of a single 9 volt battery darn near forever.

This seller provides resistors that work perfectly with his LEDs as well as the T-95s from All Electronics. Be sure they are defused LEDs you order from him. Point light LEDs won’t illuminate the entire button.
